Celebrating Jerry Garcia During the Days Between
Andy Falco and Travis Book of The Infamous Stringdusters have joined forces to honor the legendary Jerry Garcia with their latest release, a collaborative live album titled “Falco & Book Play Jerry Garcia.” This heartfelt tribute is now available through Americana Vibes. The album’s release coincides with the Days Between, a special 9-day period from August 1st to August 9th that is celebrated annually by Deadheads around the world, commemorating Garcia’s life and musical legacy. The focus track of the album is a stripped-down, 10-minute rendition of The Grateful Dead’s classic, “Morning Dew,” showcasing the duo’s mastery of acoustic guitar, upright bass, and vocal harmonies. Capturing the Essence of Jerry Garcia
Originally conceived as a live project, “Falco & Book Play Jerry Garcia” quickly gained a dedicated following among fans. Inspired by their fans’ admiration, Falco and Book decided to record these duo arrangements in order to share them with a wider audience. The acoustic format provides a spaciousness that allows listeners to immerse themselves in Garcia’s music, ranging from The Grateful Dead’s iconic hits to collaborative works with David Grisman. This album encourages listeners to engage with the music on a personal level, evoking their own musical memories and experiencing the tunes with fresh ears and an open mind.
Exploring Traditional Music Styles
For both Falco and Book, this album represents not only a tribute to Jerry Garcia but also a deep dive into traditional music styles such as bluegrass, blues, country, and more. They understand that musicians are shaped by the music they have listened to and loved, incorporating elements from a wide range of genres into their own unique sound. As Travis Book explains, “Traditional music forms, like Jazz, Blues, Country, or Bluegrass, are styles all their own.” By infusing Garcia’s music with their own influences, they create a truly compelling and authentic tribute to an iconic musician.
