It has been quite a summer for ‘Barbie.’ After months of anticipation, with constant set photos, character posters, plot theories, and brand collaborations, Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie,’ starring Margot Robbie as the iconic doll and Ryan Gosling as her partner Ken, made a grand entrance that overshadowed even Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer.’
And what started as a playful joke about both movies premiering on the same day (July 21) turned into a momentous occasion, the successful double feature known as “Barbenheimer,” where fans lined up to watch them back-to-back. Since its premiere on July 21, ‘Barbie’ has been a box office hit. But for those who wish to watch it from the comfort of their dream house, the question remains: When, how, and where can you stream it?
When, How, and Where Can I Watch ‘Barbie’?
Well, the answer is: starting tomorrow. Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that ‘Barbie’ will be available for rent through Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) and for purchase through Premium Electronic Sell-through (PEST) from September 12.
Greta Gerwig’s film will be available on PVOD for a retail price of €12.99 and on PEST for €16.99. You can find the film on the following digital platforms: Apple TV, Rakuten TV, Prime Video, Youtube, Google Play, Movistar+, Orange, Vodafone, and Microsoft.
HBO Max Secures Rights (At Least in the USA)
‘Barbie’ will exclusively premiere on the streaming platform HBO Max, as the movie shares the same parent company as HBO: Warner Bros. Discovery. As for the release date on Max, it is difficult to pinpoint as HBO has not announced an official streaming date.
Following Warner Bros. Discovery’s usual pattern of a two-month gap between theatrical release and streaming availability, ‘Barbie’ should arrive on Max this autumn. However, with the accidental success of ‘Barbenheimer’ boosting ticket sales, distributors might decide to keep Barbie exclusively in theaters for some time. Alternatively, they could offer a rental model, similar to what some streaming services did during the early days of COVID-19.
In any case, the Barbie party shows no signs of ending anytime soon.
