Prepare to be enthralled by this mind-bending tale of misplaced anger and retribution. Although hours have passed since I finished reading, the emotions stirred within me are still running high. Anger and conflict intertwine as I rejoice in Rika and Michael’s triumph.
Rika, once a young girl living next door, became the object of Michael’s desire. However, the unspoken rule was that she was off-limits because Michael’s younger brother held the family’s favor. The more Michael saw Rika, the stronger his longing grew. But he knew he had to keep his distance.
Michael, Kai, Damon, and Will, high school basketball stars, made their move while Rika, a sixteen-year-old girl, was attending her classes. Although they had already left school, they returned to orchestrate hazing and other team activities, while the authorities turned a blind eye. Following an unexpected encounter, Rika’s eager-to-please attitude takes a backseat as she joins Michael on a covert adventure.
As intrigued as I was by Michael and his friends, their actions repulsed me. Who in their right mind would return to their high school in their thirties to torment young teenagers? What purpose did it serve, besides reliving their glory days? It’s important to emphasize this point.
Nevertheless, Rika willingly spends an evening with Michael and his friends. Chaos ensues, property is destroyed, and Rika plays a series of pranks on Michael, only to be rejected in the end. The night concludes with her feeling rejected and dejected.
The following day, three out of the four friends are apprehended and sent to jail. Michael remains the only one yet to face the consequences of their criminal activities, thanks to the online footage of their actions, which they recorded with their own hands.
During the years of their incarceration, the group simmers with a burning desire for revenge, convinced that Rika is the one who exposed their misdeeds. Now that the time for payback has arrived, they put their plan into motion.
Without revealing too much, let’s just say that Rika is subjected to unimaginable horrors by the group. While the story tiptoes around the darkest aspects, it manages to deliver spine-tingling moments. However, the intensity falls short compared to other darker tales of revenge.
From the beginning until around 75% into the story, I was completely engrossed. But when the resolution finally unfolded, I found myself feeling slightly let down. Looking at it from a fresh perspective, I realized that the tale avoided delving into the depths it initially promised.
