Do you believe in the power of movement and dance? The Bare Toed Dance Company, based in Newcastle, certainly does. Founded by Lynn Campbell, Rachel Kurtz, and Jo Templey, this Community Interest Company (CIC) is dedicated to offering creative movement opportunities and aerial dance performances for children, families, educators, and practitioners. Let’s dive into their inspiring work!
Weaving Experience and Wisdom
At the heart of the Bare Toed Dance Company lies a wealth of knowledge and experience in child development. Lynn, Rachel, and Jo have combined their expertise to create an inclusive practice that fosters growth and creativity. Their work is not just about dance; it’s about nurturing the mind, body, and soul through movement.
Lynn Campbell: Director and Dance Movement Therapist
Lynn Campbell, one of the directors of the company, brings over ten years of experience as a primary school teacher and a teacher for children with special needs. She is also a trained Dance Movement Psychotherapist, having completed her MA at The Laban Centre. Lynn’s dedication to supporting mothers and babies can be seen through her Active Birth Teacher certification and her Baby Yoga Play sessions.
Jo Templey: Director and Empathetic Facilitator
Jo Templey, another talented director at Bare Toed, has an extensive background in teaching and facilitating groups of all ages. With qualifications in performing arts and aromatherapy massage therapy, Jo knows how to create a nurturing and creative environment for learning. Her passion for movement play and dance, combined with her empathetic nature, make her a natural fit for working with children, families, and educators.
Rachel Kurtz: Director and Creative Explorer
Rachel Kurtz, the third director of the company, started dancing ballet at a young age but took a different path as she grew older. Her artistic journey led her to explore various creative mediums and life experiences. Eventually, Rachel found her way back to movement through 5 Rhythms dance. As a trained 5 Rhythms teacher, she continues to study, teach, and be inspired by the power of movement. Rachel’s passion for child development and neurology adds a fascinating dimension to the company’s work.
Embracing Collaboration: Associate Artists
The Bare Toed Dance Company believes in the power of collaboration. As they weave their creative tapestry, they are fortunate to have a community of artists and practitioners supporting them in the North East and beyond. These associate artists bring their own unique talents, perspectives, and experiences, enhancing the company’s offerings and enriching the lives of those they touch.
