Online dating in Austria is tiny, especially compared to its neighbor, Germany. If you are moving to Vienna or any of the larger-sized towns in Austria, I recommend you start with Bumble. It is one of the most popular dating apps in the country.
With enough work on your part, you might be able to get at least a few dates, and maybe more.
Here is my quick list of the top three dating sites/apps in Austria. I’ll go into more detail in my reviews below.
Check out my full review on Bumble here.
Parship.at is a good choice if you prefer a more serious dating site (as opposed to Tinder, which tends to be more effective for short term relationships vs. long term).
Parship has been around a long time (founded in 2000) and are really strong in neighboring Germany. As is the case with most dating sites, there is a free and a pay account.
To pretty much get any useful functionality out of Parship though, you will need to pay. The good side is that this payment helps keep the riff raff out and filters out a lot of the pretenders.
My tip for Parship is to really spend some time filling out the questionnaire. It is the key to finding a good match.
Lovoo is owned by the same company that owns MeetMe, Skout, and Tagged. I’ve taken a deep dive into the app to uncover whether or not it’s actually worth your time.
Lovoo’s sign-up process is one of the quickest I’ve seen. If you have a Facebook or Instagram account, you can sync up the majority of your information to be filled out automatically.
You may have to go in and add a few details, but this is a big time saver. Other than the basic demographic questions, you’ll just need to add at least one photo and verify your email address before you can get started.
Keep in mind though that while it’s a quick and simple process to complete your profile, this may lead to fewer filtering options to find super compatible matches. You’ll have to choose your trade-off.
Fortunately, navigating your way through the app is fairly easy. Lovoo has a simple-to-use interface so don’t have to worry about getting lost or confused. To start finding matches, simply locate the “Match” tab in the navigation menu.
If you’ve used other swiping apps like Tinder or Bumble, you’ll have no issues creating matches on Lovoo as it uses the same left/right swipe interface to match its users. Once you’ve made a match, you will have access to communicate.
A major downside to Lovoo is that you’ll need to be on the lookout for fake profiles and bots.
To start chatting with your matches, locate the chat bubble icon in the bottom navigation menu. From here, you’ll have the option to send messages, an icebreaker, or video chat once you’re comfortable enough.
However, free users can only send a limited number of messages and icebreakers per day. You will have to upgrade to a paid membership to have unlimited communication.
So how does Lovoo set itself apart from bigger competitors? Let’s take a look at some of their most notable features.
- Ability to earn credits — If you don’t want to use your actual money to pay for the premium features, Lovoo gives you the opportunity to earn credits that can be redeemed for them instead.
- Icebreakers — Not sure how to start a conversation? You can send your match an icebreaker to skip the small talk.
- Lovoo Live — Rather than video chatting each of your matches individually, you can go live and share a snippet of your day. Your matches can watch you in real-time and leave comments.
- Live Radar — Out walking around or visiting a new city? You can use Live Radar to display users that are in your vicinity for a quick meetup.
Lovoo only has one paid membership, but the duration you commit to will determine the price.
Lovoo’s paid membership includes:
- Advertisement free
- Unlimited swipes
- 3 Icebreakers per day
- 2 top cherries per day
- Boosted profile
- First access to new users in your area
- Back swipe
- See who likes you
- Hide/Stay offline while swiping
Other sites that you can try are Badoo.com and OKCupid.com. Both sites/apps tend to have large numbers of low quality profiles, so you will have to work a bit harder to find legitimate people.
Good luck dating, and don’t give up!
