Nigerian music has continued to grow in leaps and bounce within Africa and beyond. As usual a humongous amount of music was dished out everyday by both established music stars and upcoming artistes during the year.
With this post BBBUZZ would be considering the top 20 Nigerian songs in 2017. We will be outlining some of the biggest Nigerian songs that rocked the radio airwaves and television screens in the year 2017.
Compiling the list wasn’t any easy has some criteria was put into consideration before collating what would be the top 20 Nigerian songs this year.

- IF – Davido
This is arguably the biggest song to have been made in Nigeria this year. So far so good, David Adeleke better known as Davido set a high standard this year by dropping the epic tune ‘IF’ produced by Tekno. ‘IF’ has garned hundreds of music covers by various artistes both local and international. Currently the video of the song boast of over 50 million views on YouTube. This is the number one song in Nigeria.
- Come Closer – Wizkid
Nigeria’s biggest music export Wizkid continued to cash in on his chemistry with Canadian rapper Drake. ‘Come Closer’ by Wizkid is rated as the second most successful song in Nigeria with even better international acclaim. Currently the video of the song has over 48 million views on YouTube since its release.
- Fall – Davido
Davido makes the list again in the top 5 division with his smash hit ‘Fall’. This is quite impressive as the DMW boss was able to pull in more than one solid hit in 2017. ‘Money fall on you, banana fall on you’ have been very popular on the street thanks to Davido. The video for ‘Fall’ is one of the best Nigerian music videos out there and it has garnered over 33 millions viewership on YouTube which is even more impressive.
- All Over – Tiwa Savage
‘All Over’ by Tiwa Savage has clearly been all over the place. The African music diva owned the year since the release of her single produced by Mavin Records beat maker Baby Fresh. Again ‘All Over’ has been sitting pretty high on music charts both on radio and TV in Nigeria.
- Juice – Ycee
Tinny Entertainment rapper Ycee kept the flag flying high with his hit song aptly titled ‘Juice’. The song wasn’t only a buzz track in Nigeria but was also doing great overseas. American music mogul Diddy played the song by Ycee while marking his 48th anniversary. Singer and music producer Maleek Berry did good on ‘Juice’ as a featured artiste.
- Yawa – Tekno
TripleMG superstar Tekno has been keeping up very well as the artiste’s song ‘Yawa’ made it to the sixth spot on the list. ‘Yawa’ is one of the biggest songs that rocked the airwaves in Nigeria. The song hit over a million views on YouTube in 48 hours since it dropped.
- WO!! – Olamide
‘WO’ is one is easily the number one club and dance record in Nigeria. Young Jonn produced some mad beats and YBNL C-in-C Olamide blessed the track with his vocals. The song went viral within 3 days of it’s release. Hundreds of dance/parody videos have been made with the song.
- For Life – Runtown
After ‘Mad Over You’, one of Nigeria’s finest pop star Runtown resurfaced with another banger titled ‘For Life’. The jam sees Runtown express his feelings to his love interest who he promises to love ‘For Life’. The raving ‘pon pon’ sound makes the song an instant sensation.
- Mama – Mayorkun
Headies Awards ‘Rookie of the Year’ 2016 Mayorkun continues his impressive run in 2017. The DMW music act stunned with his love themed number ‘Mama’. Since its release the song has been doing very well on radio and TV music charts.
- Gaaga Shuffle – 2Baba
2Baba’s consistency is probably one of the reasons he is highly regarded as a living Nigerian music legend. The Hypertek boss never fails to make a solid music release every year. 2Baba did murder the ‘pon pon’ beat on ‘Gaaga Shuffle’. This is one of the most played songs in Naija.
- Joromi – Simi
‘Joromi joromi I want you to love me…’, from the beginning of the song to the end X3M music act Simi shone on the track. Her lyrics were playful, catchy and sticky. Her vocals were everything. ‘Joromi’ has been one of the most played songs across all Nigerian radio. A very beautiful video was shot to further complement the tune.
- Yeba – Kiss Daniel
Former G-Worldwide artiste now Fly Boi Inc. CEO hit the ground running again in 2017 with ‘Yeba’ after a successful album. ‘Yeba’ is an outstanding song with simple and groovy kind of lyrics. Kiss Daniel went retro with this but the result is a radio, club and wedding banger.
- Easy (Jeje) – Reekado Banks
Mavin Records finest Reekado Banks came through with a wedding themed song ‘Easy (Jeje)’. The Altims produced beats was just good enough for the Mavin music star to ride on. This song is always on a DJ’s playlist at Owambe and wedding parties. ‘Easy (Jeje)’ takes our thirteenth spot.
- Ma Lo – Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage makes a second appearance on the list for her song ‘Ma Lo’. The track featured Wizkid and was housed on the ‘SugarCane’ EP. ‘Ma Lo’ is dope and the video is even more breathtaking as Tiwa Savage oozed some sexiness. This number easily makes one of the best collaborations this year.
- Yolo Yolo – Seyi Shay
One of Nigeria’s finest female act Seyi Shay showed she still got it in her with her 2017 debut song ‘Yolo Yolo’. The track which is a nice blend of highlife, afrobeat and salsa was produced by DJ Coublon. Seyi Shay wowed on every level on the track. ‘Yolo Yolo’ is our number 15.
- Maradona – Niniola
Since her debut into the Nigerian music space Niniola has owned the Afro-house genre. As expected she brought her A game on ‘Maradona’ as the track has been getting good traction since its premiere.
- Telli Person – Timaya
Nigeria’s king of dancehall Timaya did not fail to turn up in 2017. With the assistance of industry colleagues Phyno and Olamide the trio delivered a mad joint ‘Telli Person’. The track is danceable and with witty lyrics.
- Augment – Phyno
Now it’s cool to see rappers like Phyno sing and make good melody on their songs. ‘The Playmaker’ attempted to replicate another song like ‘Fada Fada’. The effort was decent as ‘Augment’ which is highlife influenced would make you forget everything and dance.
- Living Things – 9ice
Alapomeji 9ice had one of the most controversial track on the year ‘Living Things’ which is open to different interpretation. However, the song is a jam regardless and a very popular club anthem. ‘Mofe Cha che’ is also a popular street slang thanks to the song.
- Jeje – Falz
Taking the number 20 spot is entertainer, actor and rapper Falz. The Bahd guy switched up a little bit by rocking the ‘pon pon’ sound with very decent bars. The song ‘Jeje’ is a fan favorite and had enjoyed massive airplay with many fans able to sing through all the lyrics.
