We are almost at the end of the first month of 2022. As we bid farewell to January, Netflix is gearing up to release an exciting array of new movies, television series, and original content. Among the upcoming releases is the charming romantic comedy, Can You Keep a Secret, starring the talented Alexandra Daddario and Tyler Hoechlin. Based on Sophie Kinsella’s 2003 novel of the same name, this film is a delightful addition to Netflix’s expanding catalog.
Netflix’s decision to add Can You Keep a Secret to their lineup is a bold move. Despite only receiving a limited theatrical release in foreign markets, where it quietly earned $1.6 million at the box office, the film gained popularity through its direct-to-video release in the United States. With its heartwarming meet-cute and lighthearted storyline, Can You Keep a Secret is the perfect choice for a Valentine’s Day date movie.
Directed by Elise Duran and written by Peter Hutchings, the movie revolves around one’s journey of overcoming insecurities. The protagonist, Emma Corrigan (played by Alexandra Daddario), is a junior marketing representative at an organic food company in New York. Following a disastrous business meeting in Chicago, Emma finds solace in alcohol on her flight home. In an unexpected turn of events, she ends up revealing her personal and professional challenges to a handsome stranger, unaware that he is Jack Harper (played by Tyler Hoechlin), her company’s young CEO.
While some argue that the film lacks substance, it offers an abundance of funny and awkward moments that will undoubtedly bring a smile to your face. These carefully placed bumps in the road will have you rooting for Emma, brilliantly portrayed by Alexandra Daddario. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, with an approval rating of only 29% on Rotten Tomatoes and an average score of 4.4/10, Can You Keep a Secret manages to strike a chord with its heartfelt storyline.
Joining Alexandra Daddario and Tyler Hoechlin in the cast are Sunita Mani as Lissy, Laverne Cox as Cybill, Kimiko Glenn as Gemma, and David Ebert as Connor Martin. The film also features remarkable performances by Bobby Tisdale as Doug, Kate Easton as Artemis, Robert King as Casey, Sam Asghari as Omar, and Judah Friedlander as Mick.
Despite starring in a few movies that did not propel her career forward, Alexandra Daddario remains dedicated to her craft. After her breakthrough role as Annabeth Chase in the Percy Jackson film series, the talented actress went on to star in Hall Pass (2011), Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013), and San Andreas (2015) as Blake Gaines. She also portrayed Summer Quinn in Baywatch (2017) and Alexis Butler in We Summon the Darkness (2019).
In addition to her film career, Alexandra Daddario has made guest appearances on various television shows, including White Collar, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, True Detective, New Girl, and American Horror Story: Hotel. Her most recent success was her role as Rachel in the first season of the critically acclaimed HBO series, The White Lotus, which premiered on July 11, 2021. Following its positive reception and impressive viewership numbers, The White Lotus was renewed as an anthology series, promising to captivate audiences with new captivating stories.
Alexandra Daddario’s most recent film, Die in a Gunfight, is a romantic crime thriller directed by Collin Schiffli, with a script by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. This modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet sees Alexandra Daddario portraying Mary Rathcart, alongside Diego Boneta as Ben Gibbon. The film also features stellar performances by Justin Chatwin as Terrence Uberahl, Travis Fimmel as Wayne McCarthy, Emmanuelle Chriqui as Barbie, Wade Allain-Marcus as Mukul, and John Ralston as William Rathcart, with narration by Billy Crudup. Lionsgate released Die in a Gunfight on July 16, 2021.
