Snapple Introduces a Metaverse Bodega
Enjoy great savings and exciting rewards by embarking on a scavenger hunt and registering your PayPal wallet.
There’s a brand-new bodega in Decentraland’s metaverse, and it’s none other than Snapple, the beloved sugary beverage company.
On Wednesday, Snapple constructed a virtual corner store reminiscent of New York City, complete with a bodega cat. CoinDesk paid a visit on Thursday, and we strolled through its pixelated aisles, participating in the thrilling scavenger hunt for flying chopped cheeses and Snapple bottle caps.
This entire installation is a clever advertisement for Snapple’s latest drink collection called “Elements.” And here’s an added bonus for buying these bottles: Each real-life drink comes with a code that you can use to claim a unique non-fungible token (NFT) wearable, as stated on the company’s website.
During our in-game scavenger hunt, we discovered a rebate code worth $1.39 for purchasers of the drink. Ironically, the real-life discount requires buyers to connect their PayPal accounts instead of using cryptocurrency.
In addition to its marketing efforts, Snapple has partnered with popular Twitch streamers who have been actively promoting this digital installation on social media platforms.
Snapple Brings 90’s Nostalgia to the Metaverse with its First-Ever Blockchain Bodega
Snapple continues its Web3 exploration by inviting cryptocurrency and beverage enthusiasts to partake in this unique experience.
For millennials and Gen-X’ers, Snapple’s iced tea and juice drinks might not have been as flashy as Coke, but they certainly made their mark on that generation. With an extensive range of flavors and memorable television ads, Snapple became the seventh-largest food and drink company in the United States, captivating consumers with its “best stuff on Earth” marketing campaign.
Inspired by New York’s digital shopping scene, Snapple’s new digital bodega offers users an interactive experience featuring the brand’s revitalized beverage line, known as Snapple Elements.
With its vibrant designs and inviting ambiance reminiscent of a classic corner store, this bodega not only presents a refreshed product line but also provides an adventurous scavenger hunt game.
There are numerous activities to enjoy during the experience. You can explore the snack-filled aisles, try your luck with scratch-and-win instant lottery cards, and don’t forget to pet the bodega’s resident cat.
Drawing inspiration from their iconic 90’s bottle caps featuring “real facts,” Snapple now invites users to purchase their beverages in real life. By doing so, customers can once again uncover an NFT claim code beneath the bottle cap, granting access to coupon rebates and exclusive NFT wearables within Decentraland.
As the concept of Web3 gains momentum in mainstream culture, similar installations are likely to become more commonplace. Recall Pepsi’s attempt at adopting crypto slang in December, which initially elicited cringes from the Crypto Twitter community, but ultimately resulted in a highly successful NFT collection with nearly $6 million in sales volume.
Moreover, this isn’t Snapple’s first foray into Web3. Last May, the company collaborated with the Tezos and Polygon-based NFT platform, OneOf, to release its debut collection. This marked their initial step in what now appears to be a larger campaign targeted at crypto-curious beverage enthusiasts. OneOf recently secured $8 million USD in funding, with support from American Express.
