The Role of a Legal Consultant in the Field of Blockchain Technology
Are you passionate about intellectual property law and intrigued by the world of blockchain and digital assets? Ratingperson is currently seeking a Legal Consultant to provide crucial support to our in-house legal counsel and management team. As a Legal Consultant, you will have the opportunity to contribute your expertise in specific areas such as intellectual property (IP) law and blockchain and digital assets regulation.
Responsibilities and Scope
On a part-time retainer basis, you can expect an estimated workload of 15-20 hours per week (60-80 hours per month). Your primary focus will involve providing legal guidance in various IP-related matters. This includes assisting in the drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of contracts, agreements, and licenses pertaining to intellectual property, blockchain, and digital assets.
Additionally, you will play a key role in advising the company on IP strategies, safeguarding our assets and innovations through trademark and copyright protection, patent applications, and trade secret management. You will also be responsible for managing and enforcing our intellectual property rights, conducting infringement analyses, drafting cease and desist letters, and working closely with external counsel on potential legal actions, should they arise.
Proactive Legal Research and General Legal Work
Staying ahead of the game is crucial, and this is where your legal research skills will come into play. Keep abreast of the latest developments and changes in intellectual property law, blockchain technology, and digital assets regulation. Armed with this knowledge, you will provide proactive recommendations and guidance to our in-house legal counsel and management team, highlighting potential legal risks or opportunities.
You will also contribute to various projects and legal matters beyond intellectual property. Some of your responsibilities may include drafting and negotiating legal documents such as SAFTs and SAFEs, corporate restructuring within an international context, reviewing contracts, assisting with compliance and government license applications, monitoring key regulatory developments, and creating policies in compliance, marketing, and communications review.
Additional Duties and Qualifications
On top of specific responsibilities, you will engage in corporate housekeeping tasks for various legal entities, participate in crisis and contingency planning, assist with employment agreements and human resource functions, and support the audit of marketing materials and communications.
As a successful candidate, you must possess a license to practice law in the Philippines. A basic understanding of blockchain technology and the crypto industry is also essential. We value individuals who are willing to engage in substantive legal work, including contract review and drafting, legal research, and more, rather than solely providing advisory services.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Philippine legal work experience, particularly in IP law firms or top law firms like ACCRA, SyCip, Romulo, etc.
- In-house counsel experience for a tech or fintech company
- Specialization in investment or banking law
- Government agency experience (e.g., SEC, BSP, or AML)
- International securities, investments, and commercial law experience
- Specialized knowledge or familiarity with the crypto industry or blockchain technology
