For over fifty-seven years, IVP’s Press-o-matic, known as the IVP Book Club, has been a steadfast resource for Christians. With a membership of more than one hundred thousand, it holds the honor of being the longest-running book club tailored specifically for Christians. Now, IVP is building on this legacy by introducing the IVP Book Drop. This new monthly book club seeks to provide readers with spiritual growth, diverse perspectives, and opportunities to engage in powerful conversations about today’s most important cultural topics.
Lorraine Caulton, the director of creative and customer engagement at IVP, acknowledges that while the IVP Book Club has always delivered relevant content for Christians, changes in the industry and the world around us necessitated a fresh approach. Factors such as the rise of social media, a heightened awareness of diversity, a decline in church attendance, and increased global consciousness prompted the team to consider an alternative. “We didn’t want to replace the IVP Book Club,” Caulton explained, “but instead, we wanted to provide an option that offers excellent content in line with who we are and the world we live in today.”
Justin Paul Lawrence, IVP’s vice president of sales and marketing, expressed his excitement about the IVP Book Drop as the latest innovation from IVP. He stated, “While our longstanding Book Club and set collecting programs will continue, I’m glad that Lorraine Caulton and her team have created this new way to reach and bless readers.”
Traditionally, the IVP Book Club has offered subscribers two new IVP books every four weeks, along with a thirty percent discount on other titles. In contrast, IVP Book Drop subscribers will receive a carefully selected new title each month. These books will be authored by emerging voices and well-known figures, ensuring diversity in both ethnicity and gender.
The inaugural title for IVP Book Drop subscribers is the award-winning book, Reading While Black: African American Biblical Interpretation as an Exercise in Hope by Esau McCaulley. Other notable titles in the Book Drop collection include:
- God Speaks Through Wombs: Poems on God’s Unexpected Coming by Drew Jackson
- The Gap Decade: When You’re Technically an Adult but Really Don’t Feel Like It Yet by Katie Schnack
- When Everything’s on Fire: Faith Forged from the Ashes by Brian Zahnd
- Restless Devices: Recovering Personhood, Presence, and Place in the Digital Age by Felicia Wu Song
- Eyes to See: Recognizing God’s Common Grace in an Unsettled World by Tim Muehlhoff
- Who Moved My Neighborhood?: Leading Congregations Through Gentrification and Economic Change by Mark E. Strong
Lorraine Caulton, who has dedicated over twenty years to the IVP Book Club, expressed her enthusiasm for this new venture. She believes that while the IVP Book Club has a rich legacy and continues to serve thousands of Christians, the addition of IVP Book Drop will expand their reach to an ever-growing number of Christians interested in diverse voices and faithful engagement with the world. Their deep faith and understanding of the issues our culture faces today will undoubtedly impact our diverse and evolving world.
