“The Atlas was the first modern Volkswagen designed, engineered, and produced specifically for American buyers, and it has become a major player in the U.S. market,” said Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America. Building on its success, Volkswagen is proud to unveil the refreshed 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport at the Chicago Auto Show. With an elegant new interior and a sophisticated turbocharged engine, these models bring performance and luxury to a whole new level.
Elevated Interior Design and Comfort
While maintaining the successful underpinnings of the previous models, the 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport offer a major upgrade to the spacious interior. Premium materials, including a leatherette-trimmed soft-touch dash and center console, create an upscale cockpit. The front-row door trim seamlessly flows into the dash panel, while the second row mirrors this design. Ambient lighting with 30 color choices and backlit dash décor featuring the model name elevate the new design. Top-of-the-range models feature quilted leather seats with a diamond pattern.
Comfort features have also received a boost. Standard fare now includes a heated steering wheel with shift paddles, ventilated front seats, and a height-adjustable passenger seat. Climatronic® automatic climate control and Voice Control further enhance the driving experience. The redesigned center console now includes a storage cubby underneath, providing convenient storage options. Leather seating surfaces and heated rear seats are available on a trim line lower than before, offering even more luxury.
Enhanced Technology for a Connected Experience
The refreshed Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport offer enhanced technology that keeps you connected on the road. A stunning 12-inch floating infotainment display becomes the focal point of the redesigned cockpit. Additionally, every trim level benefits from the 10.25-inch fully configurable Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro. Connecting devices is easier than ever with standard wireless App-Connect, wireless charging, and six USB-C ports (eight available) with 45-watt fast charging.
Safety is a priority with the inclusion of IQ.DRIVE® driver assistance technology as standard. IQ.DRIVE features hands-on semi-automatic capability, making highway driving easier with lane centering and a capacitive steering wheel. Around town, IQ.DRIVE helps alert you to obstacles and enhances overall safety. Available features such as a head-up display and predictive Adaptive Cruise Control further enhance your driving experience.
Striking Exterior Design
The 2024 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport feature a refreshed front end design and greater differentiation between the two models. A wide chrome four-bar grille, framed by LED headlights with the newly standard Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), makes a bold statement. For an unmistakable premium look, the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) wrap around the headlights and continue into an illuminated lightbar that sits atop the illuminated VW logo. A new front fascia with integrated air intakes completes the front end treatment. Atlas Cross Sport models add gloss-black grille details and a gloss-black “X” design element, similar to Taos, stretching across the lower fascia.
At the rear, both models sport a larger spoiler, extending the overall roofline for a sleeker side profile. All trims, except the base, feature an illuminated lightbar and VW logo between the LED taillights, mirroring the front lighting signature. The Atlas Cross Sport models showcase a more aggressive rear diffuser, distinguishing them from the previous generation.
New wheel designs, ranging from 18 to 20 inches, with machined alloy and black finishes, give the Atlas family a stylish edge. The R-line® trims take it a step further with a gloss-black grille, 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, and signature R-line badging.
Powerful Performance and Efficiency
For the 2024 model year, the Atlas family is powered solely by a four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® engine. With 269 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, the new engine provides similar power to the outgoing VR6. However, it offers a bump in torque over a broader rev range, resulting in improved drivability and acceleration. The anticipated improved fuel economy is an added bonus. Towing capacity remains at an impressive 5,000 pounds. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, while Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is available across the model lineup.
